Valledupar, called the “forest city”, is considered as one of the greenest cities in the country. Valledupar is located in northeastern Colombia, capital of the Department of Cesar. It lies between the mountains of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Serrania Del Perijá at the edge of the Guatapurí and Cesar rivers.

Valledupar is famous for being the cradle of vallenato music, representative of the Colombian culture. It`s known internationally as the Capital of the Vallenato.

The city offers you lots of free outdoor activities which you can do within Valledupar and in the surrounding area, such as visits to one of the main indigenous populations Arhuaca (Capital of the Arhuaco nation) "NABUSIMAKE", natural swimming facilities in well-known rivers like Guatapurí (is a river that flows from the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta into the Cesar River in northern Colombia by the city of Valledupar) and Rio Badillo, Natural swimming facilities “La Mina” ; the traditional and colonial parts of the city centre, who still preserves the Spanish colonial architecture; Ecoparks and important bird areas; ecological walks; trekking, mountain biking; visits to nearby villages and towns like Patillal, manaure, Atánquez, La Mina and much, much more...

You will find trees in the front and backyards of most houses, almost considered as an obligation in the local culture. Also important is the presence of fruit trees in public areas such as parks, sidewalks and boulevards. The most common of these are mango, cañahuate, ceibas, robles and cauchos.

THE VALLENATO LEGEND FESTIVAL (Spanish: Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata) It’s celebrated every year in April in the city of Valledupar. Is one of the most important musical festivals in Colombia. The Festival features a vallenato music contests for best interpreter of accordion, caja vallenata and guacharaca, as well as piqueria (battle of lyrics) and best song.
Piloneras Parade: This traditional dance. Traditionally Dancers paraded on the streets using a giant wooden mortar and pestle, the men and women danced around in a courteous way. It’s celebrated the first day, every year during the vallenato legend festival.
